Julia Effertz is an actress and filmmaker based in Berlin, and working on German and international film and television productions.
Her range spans comedy and drama — powerful and authentic, yet light and precise, with strong presence and emotional depth.
Acting opposite Tobias Moretti, Julia has appeared as tough Mrs. Gregson in the thriller series The Net(d: Andreas Prochaska | c: Nicole Schmied).
In award-winning drama Blind Spots, which screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and received the distinction “Highly Recommended,” she played the lead role of Donna and was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at Filmzeit Kaufbeuren.
Internationally, she has worked under the direction of Academy Award nominee Julie Delpy in the drama My Zoe (c: Anja Dihrberg), which premiered at TIFF.

Julia is also a regular guest star in German crime series.

She has appeared opposite Claudia Michelsen in the acclaimed Polizeiruf 110 – They Are Among Us (d: Esther Bialas | c: Mai Seck), as well as in the popular and long-running German crime series SOKO Wismar (d: Oren Schmuckler | c: Sabine Weimann).

Further roles include the drama The Case of Marianne Voss (d: Uljana Havemann | c: Suse Marquardt) and the series Die Spezialisten (d: Kay Meyer-Ricks | c: Ingrid Cuenca).


As part of the ensemble of the Amazon Prime comedy series The Glory Is Gone (d: Kai Wiesinger), Julia has received the prestigious Romy Award in 2019.


Raised trilingual, Julia completed her acting training in France and England.

In 2011, she was nominated at the London Off West End Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

She made her German television debut in 2013 as Jürgen Prochnow’s daughter in My Daughter’s Children (d: Karola Meeder | c: Gitta Uhlig).

As a writer and filmmaker, Julia wrote, directed, and starred in the short film 180 km/h Empty, which received multiple awards at German and international film festivals..

Her screenplays have been selected, amongst others, for the Funny Women Awards London and the PÖFF Tallinn Black Nights Festival
